Iglu Summer Hill

The former Western Suburbs Ambulance Station, built in the suburban Inter-war era Mediterranean style, originally opened in 1937. In 2017, the NSW State Government, having established a new purpose-built ‘superstation’ in Haberfield, sold this heritage-listed site. Student accommodation providers Iglu, in collaboration with Bates Smart, aimed to introduce new student housing while also incorporating the preserved former Ambulance station into the redesigned 180-room student accommodation development on this site. Throughout the project, Weir Phillips provided comprehensive support, including initial feasibility advice, guidance through the development assessment process, supervision by heritage consultants during restoration, and the development of a heritage interpretation plan.
