Weir Phillips Heritage provided conservation and heritage advisory services for the adaptive reuse of a significant inter-war industrial building in Chippendale, which houses the new global headquarters of Q-CTRL, a leader in quantum technology.
Constructed in 1936 for engineering firm EG Bishop Pty Ltd, the two-storey corner building is a representative example of industrial development that replaced earlier residential terraces throughout the 1930s to 1950s. This transition reflects the broader transformation of Chippendale into a mixed-use suburb with a strong industrial identity. The building’s ongoing commercial and industrial use since its construction contributes to its historic character and significance.
Weir Phillips Heritage supported the project through both pre- and post-lodgement phases, providing heritage impact assessment, conservation advice, and strategic guidance to ensure the proposed use aligned with the site’s historical and architectural values. The new headquarters pays homage to the building’s engineering roots while contributing to the revitalisation of Chippendale’s distinctive heritage fabric.
